With my current home as DFW Texas, I will gear this page to include social activities + events related to this region but will also list anything of note that may be of interest. Since I do not want to recreate the wheel on this one, I will include links from friends as well:
Taphophile's comprehensive listing of things to do
Cinema:
Angelika Theatres - Indie cinema, two locations in Dallas + Plano. Join their mailing list + receive about many free screening opportunities. Both theatres have bars that drinks can be brought into the film!
Landmark Theatre - Inwood Theatre in Dallas has great art house movies + midnight movie series. Inwood also has a great kitschy bar inside. Magnolia Theatre in Dallas is upscale but has great martini lounge.
Studio Movie Grill - Locations in both Addision + Plano. For those that haven't been, this is the bomb - eat a full meal, have drinks, sit in comfy office chairs while watching mainstream movies. FYI, Addison is more adult friendly whereas Plano is family oriented (big surprise). Occasionally have special movie events.
Alamo Drafthouse - Ok, they are only in Austin, San Antonio

Karla + Gena's Trip to London - December 2004
Here is the recap of our trip with links to the fabulous things we encountered: (Go to Images to see a few pix)
Travel Day: Flights were late + missed due to damn Dallas snow. Arrival in London about 6 hrs late.
Day 1: Upon the obstacle course of getting to the hotel, we bundled up + prepared to start the VACATION! Went to Camden Town (total Melrose/Sunset Strip meets NYC) - lots of goth/alterna shoppes, open flea markets. Cheap yummy dinner at Buck's Head Pub - fish/chips + strong drinks (great bargain)! Then on to Devonshire Arms pub for goth nite. Met Angel, an English DJ who knows my DJ friend Raven in CA (and spun at BarSinister + Coven13 on his US trip). Cool pub (the bartender shoo'd a couple goofballs away from us).
Day2 (Xmas Eve): Soho walking tour (lots of good tales, walked thru Theatre-Land West End, Carnaby St, China Town, red light dist). Gena's sister arrived from Germany + met us for a yummy pasta/wine lunch. We went back to Camden + did all the Lock Markets + more browsing. Bundle up even more for evening pub tour. The guide took us to a gay pub , The Lamb + Flag (unbeknownst to most of the other tour takers!) Had nightcap at Mabel's Pub near hotel with Shelley + Gena.
Day3 Xmas: Damn bitter cold! No public transportation working. Walk 2 miles to the Dickens holiday walking tour at Trafalgar Square - totally packed (everyone taking tour since nothing open!) Saw Ben Franklin's residence + Dickens locations. Bitter bitter cold! Walked back 2 miles to Mable's pub for Xmas dinner. Harassment by drunk in pub - bartender shoo's him away!
Day4: London walk I - Big Ben, Parliament, Westminister Abbey, Buckingham Palace + saw changing of the guard. Inhale Chinese lunch before - London Walk II. St. Paul's Cathedral, Thames, saw Gherkin bldg + a total Metropolis style metal bldg. Back to hotel to bundle up more for Jack the Ripper tour. Very cool - chose the cute tour guide. Saw sites of murders, the Ten Bells pub where JTR most likely found these women.
Day5: British Museum tour - saw Rosetta Stone, beautiful Greek artifacts, mummys!, kitty mummys!! Lunch at the Princess Louise pub (beautiful interior, a vampire role playing group meets there regularly). Went to St Martin in the Fields to get tix for concert + had tea in the Cafe in the Crypt. Back to hotel to doll up for Chicago!! Got lost (a regular occurrence) but got to Adelphi Theatre in time for Chicago. Great time although I am so used to the movie cast singing!! Had cocktails + ice cream at our seats (strange) during intermission. Guy playing Amos was so good! The girls playing the merry murderesses were hot! I then decided to indulge for dinner - we had chateaubriand at Salieri. The restaurant had Venetian masks + Xmas lights everywhere. Yummy!
Day6: Our big day out to Stonehenge! Train to Salisbury. Toured cathedral + town (gorgeous). Damn bitter cold again!! Prepared though! Yummy lunch at an old pub in Salisbury. Then Stonehenge! Lots of photos, saw burial mounds and sheep! Fun time but exhausting. Then straight to St. Martin in the Fields for dinner at the Crypt (inhale dinner) and Bach's complete Brandenberg Concertos by the Academy of St Martin - by candlelight!! Beautiful church!! Had cheapee seats (couldn't see the musicians at all) but good meditative experience. I enjoyed the "gorgeousness + gorgeousity" of concerto#3!
Day 7: Scramble around trying to, get half price theatre tix. Everything was sold out. Ended up getting Sweeney Todd tix. Yummy Italian lunch. National Gallery - saw my fav's Goya, Ingres, David, Manet, Vermeer, Degas, Rousseau, Titian. Made quick trip to internet cafe (trying to reach my ex husband who was in the Maldives during the big tsunami.) Back to hotel for extreme doll-up. Great time seeing Sweeney Todd! Smallish theatre - great performance. Then off to Madame JoJo's for Club Noir. We got there for last couple min of Razor Blade Kisses. Pretty cool club. Then the Cureheads played (Cure Tribute band). The guy was all Robert Smith'd up! Lots of parent-types in the audience! Then the coup de grace of the trip - REAL Absinthe! The bar had the real stuff so I got a shot for Gena + I. I took photos of him preparing it. Funny thing, it looked like he was freebasing it - using a lighter with a spoonful of sugar! I must say, the Absinthe was positively VILE! I don't know if it was how it was prepared or just that the real stuff is so incredibly bitter/strong. We each gave our half sipped shots to some girl who was much appreciative! We danced and then headed back to hotel for 3 hours of sleep prior to leaving.
Travel day back - more Comedy of Errors with Homeland Insecurity + customs.
